Cigar Boxes

I have seen two cigar boxes that highlight Peck’s Bad Boy.

Harris & Balkeley
I know nothing about this cigar company. Interestingly the box has the picture on the top of the box and inside the box of “His Pa is ‘Nitiated”. This illustration is on card #7 as seen above. It is therefore likely that these cigars were part of the Peck’s Bad Boy card promotion.
This item is probably from the 1880’s.

Peck’s Bad Boy Cardinals
This box appears to be generic except for the Peck’s Bad Boy name. “Boîte Nature” refers to the type of cedar box the cigars came in. No date has been established.

Musson Book Company

This Canadian firm published seven Peck books.
1. Peck’s Boy and His Pa (Combination of “Peck’s Bad Boy, No. 1 and His Pa” and “Peck’s
Bad Boy and the Grocery Man”.)
2. Peck’s Bad Boy and His Pa
3. Peck’s Bad Boy and the Grocery Man
4. Peck’s Bad Boy with the Cowboys (Not seen)
5. Peck’s Bad Boy in an Airship (Not seen)
6. Peck’s Bad Boy with the Circus ( Not seen)
7. Peck’s Bad Boy Abroad (Not seen)

Two combination books have been seen. The earlier one is undated but since it mentions Jackie Coogan starring in the “Peck’s Bad Boy” movie, it cannot be earlier than 1921. The other combination book has a dated title page-1935.
